ABOUT US
South Canterbury Tours is a partnership between Jane McKenzie and Keith Tyler-Smith, set up to offer small, personally escorted tours for special interest and holiday or study groups in and around South Canterbury.
This beautiful part of the central South Island is rapidly becoming one of New Zealand’s ‘must see’ destinations, especially as the word is spreading fast about our unique Maori rock art.
We love hosting travellers and guests and you can be sure of a warm welcome from us and from our friendly neighbourhood homestay hosts. We have travelled widely and after many years in Christchurch, now work from our new home in the village of Woodbury, where Jane was born and raised. Keith was brought up in the UK, Zambia and Canada, but has called New Zealand home for the past 30 years.
With us, you get an insider’s guide to rural village life and the people and stories of the central South Island. We know our own backyard very well and love sharing it with visitors and international travellers.
We offer themed tours: Food & Wine, Heritage & Culture, and ESOL Holiday Tours, but you can also pick and mix from all South Canterbury Tours highlights according to your tastes and time, and we’ll put a special tour together just for you. See our action-packed Day and Half Day Tour options if you're short on time - there's something for everyone and you're sure to want to return!
Only the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) tour has a core programme of informal language practice and is therefore specifically for non-native English speakers. We also feature the ESOL option as EnglishPlus Aoraki (see www.englishplusaoraki.co.nz for further information).
Other tours will incorporate some language support if a tour group requires it.
We have designed this home-based business with the theme ‘welcome to our home’ to the fore – therefore the emphasis is on the delights of South Canterbury and being given a unique insight into everyday Kiwi life and culture. Come for a day, stay for a week.

Jane has a BA (First Class Honours) in English, a post-graduate diploma in teaching and learning, is a qualified and experienced ESOL teacher, and worked as a journalist at home and abroad for many years. |
 Keith |
Keith has a Masters in Education (with a major in online learning), a Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications, and worked in television for many years as a director and producer. |
